Alumni Success Story
APU ALUMNI OF CLASS OF 2020 - HARRY BAO CHAN, A STUDENT WITH A COMBINED MAJOR IN COMPUTER SCIENCE AND STATISTICS IN THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA.
Harry Bao Chan is one of the APU students who was given a scholarship to enroll in the University of British Columbia (Top 2 University in Canada) after graduating high school as one of the Class of 2020 Salutatorians. In addition, Harry was also honored to receive numerous scholarships from prestigious universities, such as University of Missouri-Kansas City, The American University in Vietnam, Arizona State University, and Wentworth Institute of Technology, where the values totaled up to 192,000 USD. Among many learning opportunities, Harry chose to pursue a combined major in Computer Science and Statistics at UBC.
Harry entered APU as a boarding student and had studied at the school since 8th grade. He considers APU as his second dearest home which has given him a lot of fond memories during his student life. With the help of APU teachers’ guidance, dedication, and love, Harry became passionate about the science field. As time goes by, Harry has gradually pinpointed his own future path, which is proven through the formation of science research groups with his friends, his outstanding awards at the STEAM Saigon Science Fair 2017, and his participation in the Oxford Model United Nations Conference in Singapore.
At UBC, Harry continues to retain his enthusiasm ever since he became an Eagle at APU, as he actively participates in activities organized by the university’s student association. With his fellow colleagues, they contributed to multiple open-source projects relating to data classification and analysis, while also developing a game made with the Unity game engine in UBC Game Dev Club. Furthermore, Harry also uses his best effort to support the Vietnamese community after becoming a volunteer of the Vietnamese Student Association at UBC.
It is known that his excellent academic performance and active participation have helped Harry to receive THE EXCELLENT INTERNATIONAL STUDENT AWARD (IOS) in his first year of college.
We wish Harry a healthy and happy journey ahead. Always remember APU if you want to be more motivated; the APU Eagle Family will always miss you and wish you the best.
